İznik Orhan Mosque and Imaret Survey, Restitution, and Reconstruction Project

İznik Orhan Mosque and Imaret Survey, Restitution, and Reconstruction Project

The Imaret structure is near the Yenişehir Gate outside the walls of İznik, built by Sultan Orhan Gazi as the first example of its kind, before the conquest of İznik. The building was studied and documented by Oktay Aslanapa in the 1960s. The walls are at ground level, revealing the plan layout. It is predominantly constructed using recycled materials. The survey work has been completed and approved by the Bursa Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Assets. Restitution and reconstruction project efforts are still ongoing.
