Divanhane Building Survey, Restitution, and Restoration Projects
The Divanhane Building, located in Kasımpaşa, is situated in the district where the Ottoman Navy was built and administered following the conquest of Istanbul. The building, which most recently served as the Northern Sea Area Command Headquarters, was constructed by the Balyan family in the 1860s and functioned as the Ministry of the Navy Building, being the fifth Divanhane built on the same site. Next to the building, there is also a Guardhouse Building.
Survey, restitution, and restoration projects for these structures were prepared and approved by the Istanbul Regional Board of Conservation of Cultural Heritage No. 2 and the Directorate of National Palaces under the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. During the very challenging two-year restoration process, implementation consultancy services were provided to the client firm. The project and implementation works regarding the use of the Divanhane Building as a museum were not carried out by us.
